Perfection in Pontrieux

A perfect property to have a relaxing holiday in. This cottage lived up to everything portrayed on this website,it is well equipped and the garden gives you the perfect place to relax and dine at the end of the day. Kay, the owner provides you with a comprehensive information pack on the cottage and the area. We were made to feel most welcome. Pontrieux is a picturesque place, well equipped with bakers, a butcher and a supermarket to meet your needs, it also provides a perfect base to tour this part of Brittany. We have no hesitation in recommending this property as an ideal place to stay.

Return to Pontrieux

We recently enjoyed another stay in this comfortable and well equipped accommodation. The garden is delightful and provides the opportunity to sit in either the sun or well in the shade, depending on your preference at the time. All too easy to while the time away there! But there is plenty to see locally and Pontrieux has a good feel to it. We hope to return and continue to explore the area. An added bonus was that the owners responded very favourably to our feedback. My husband has reduced mobility following a stroke. They have made a couple of very simple adaptations which many people would find useful.

Great place to relax for a week

We had a very comfortable and relaxing stay in this lovely cottage during June 2016. The owners were very quick to respond to our initial enquiry and provided all necessary details in a very efficient manner. Arrival at the cottage was hassle-free and everything with the cottage was as described. The cottage itself was perfect for ourselves (a couple), with a well equipped kitchen, comfy living area and nice clean bedrooms, bathrooms. We had mixed weather during our stay but were still able to enjoy the summer house area in the garden for an aperitif or two. Although the house is in the village it's still quiet and provides for a relaxing time. The village of Pontrieux is small and picturesque with several restaurants and a perfectly good Intermarche supermarket for supplies. The local boulangerie also does fantastic croissants. Although the weather was mixed we found good weather by driving to the coast and enjoyed several day trips to interesting towns, villages and sights in the area. We're regular visitors to France but this was our first visit to Brittany and the house made a great base to explore whilst also providing a comfortable and chilled place for lazy days.

Great little house in Pontrieux, Brittany

We found this house via the internet, after a search turned up other houses in the area, but I think we struck lucky in choosing Te Hanv. It is a charming, welcoming and well equipped 2 bedroom house in the attractive and peaceful little village of Pontrieux, in the Cotes d'Armor region of Brittany. Situated near the town centre, in easy walking distance of the town squares, boulangerie, supermarket, restaurants etc, yet in a quiet side street, the location is ideal.

The garden in front of the house is delightful and private, the whole setting being peaceful and relaxing, with good capacity to eat inside or out. The kitchen is new and well equipped, there is a washing machine and 2 bathrooms, while the living area is comfortable and not cramped. Using Pontrieux as a base, my wife & I explored much of Brittany using our hire car. All roads, including motorways, are toll free.

There is so much history to be found in Brittany, but also some stunning natural scenery, really a wonderful place to visit. If you like markets, there are lots in nearby towns, some quite large, such as in Lannion and Paimpol, some smaller like the Monday am market in Pontrieux itself (a good place to buy great cheeses, fruit & veg etc, then enjoy with a bottle of wine as you sit around the outdoor table at the house 5min walk away). We drove as far afield as Quimper in the SW of Brittany, but everywhere we went we found old buildings, great scenery, friendly people, so always a pleasure, then back home to Pontrieux, usually in time for a lovely meal outside in the garden.

There are many great places to eat in Brittany, even within the small region of the Cotes d'Armor, such as the fabulous L'Anthocyane in Lannion (we had 2 lunches there - great food, good value). We didn't try every eating place in Pontrieux, but those we tried were all good, if not up to the superb L'Anthocyane standard. In Morlaix, try the Tempo Cafe, on the river mooring precinct, for great local food, speciality their "pies", after visiting the old town and that spectacular viaduct dominating all. In Quimper the Crepery du Frugy was recommended by locals and we were most happy with their crepes (savoury & sweet). In Port Blanc, close to Pontrieux, we enjoyed the seafood platter from the Grand Hotel while sitting outside next to the shorefront; a great little spot.

Would we go to Brittany again; definitely yes, and happily stay in the same house in Pontrieux! Just wonderful

Lovely gîte in beautiful area - We were delighted with everything about this gîte from the moment we made our initial contact with the owner.

We immediately received very detailed information about the house, garden, the lovely little town of Pontrieux and excellent recommendations for places to visit and eat. We were given a very warm welcome on arrival and the gîte was absolutely immaculate and tastefully equipped.

Although convenient for the town, it is very peaceful. We would have been quite content to stay in the beautiful garden, wandering around the town and eating the amazing cakes, but tore ourselves away to explore much of the surrounding area. It is a great area for walking with a spectacular coastline, dramatic estuaries and quiet countryside. We really appreciated the local markets and food and drink.

We really hope to return and would highly recommend Ti Hanv to anyone.

A good choice - We had an excellent stay at this comfortable property that matched its description.

The pre/post booking details about the accommodation were very detailed and helpful, and the local agent was also very responsive and pleasant.

My husband has reduced mobility following a stroke three years ago, and finding accommodation that works for him is difficult, but he enjoyed this holiday. There is a good sized walk in shower downstairs, and the stairs have a good deep tread. Initial access to the property could prove difficult for some people as the entrance has two steps up to the garden without a rail. As this is not a property that is advertised as being suitable for disabled people we took the risk and it paid off. We are going back later in the year.

We would certainly recommend it to friends and family as the accommodation is comfortable, well equipped and clearly well maintained.

As for Pontrieux itself -what is not to like? It's just the right size and a really good "feel good factor " about it. We felt well received in the restaurants and shops there.

Perfect Cottage - A well presented cottage in a lovely peaceful location.

The cottage has everything for a relaxing holiday. Location is superb. A short walk to baker, supermarket, shops and centre of village.

Many lovely towns, villages and coast within a short drive.

Had a great week in a lovely village.

Great Location - Lovely Cottage, clean and well equipped, garden is beautiful and we loved the summer house. Lots to do and see locally, but a few places still closed as not high season. I would fully recommend Ty Hanv.

Deri Stevens

Fabulous little cottage - This fabulous little cottage with its stunning garden exceeded our expectations.

It was bright and airy with the kitchen being right by the large french doors that opened out into the garden. The summer house was a great spot for the long summer evenings to have a drink, play cards and relax. The location was as described, beautifully quiet but within seconds to the village centre. We reached several lovely beaches with a short drive, Bonaparte beach in particular being stunning for its views!

Had a lovely relaxing week, highly recommend.

A Little bit of Heaven - we have recently returned from Ty Hanv in Pontrieux . The minute we unlock the gate to this gîte we feel at home again.

We have been coming here for about ten years and missed it so much when we couldn't make it last year. In our opinion the property has everything you could possible need and is always spotlessly clean however the owners agent lives in the village and is on hand for any help you might need.

This year, the roses in the garden were particularly beautiful and its lovely just to sit there and relax in the peace and quiet.

We usually enjoy cooking at least one night a week. There is a charcuterie, patisseries as well as a supermarket in the village which also has a petrol station. There are four good restaurants within a short walking distance offering a variety of fare, plus a Michelin starred one if you don't mind a short drive where we always visit as a treat during our stay.

The surrounding area is a joy to drive through as you are only 25 minutes from the coast with glorious beaches . There are lots of other interests in the area details of which are provided in the gîte.

I would highly recommend that you consider this gîte if you plan to visit Brittany.

There is a very good charcuterie, pattiserries as well as a supermarket in the village plus a local market on a Saturday.

There are four very nice eating places within walking distance in the village .

Enjoyed a wonderful week in this beautiful gîte.

The weather was very kind & we spent a lot of time just 'chilling' in the garden - so relaxing!

Thank you to Judith for such a warm welcome - we would love to come back.

August 2014

We've had a lovely stay in the very comfortable apartment 'Ti Hanv' with its beautiful front garden.

Our hosts Kay and John have gone to a lot of trouble with their extremely detailed 'How to...' booklet and were especially thought in providing a high chair and toys for our 14 month old son.

We especially enjoyed the local bakery providing fresh croissants and bread. Having all the local amenities and even a small park so close was very handy.

Our highlights included:

  •      Breakfast outside in the garden
  •      Plage Bonapart was especially gorgeous
  •      Driving in the countryside
  •      Abbey & its surrounding walks (Abbaye de Beauport)
  •      Crepes at Port Blanc
  •      Walking along the sea front at Binic
  •      Boulders at Ploumanach
  •      More crepes at the lovely town of Treguier

Thank you again for thinking of everything including going to the local festival.

We've had a wonderful week.

We have had a lovely two weeks. The cottage is fantastically positioned for the town amenities, but a real haven to escape to. The garden is beautiful, and we've really enjoyed eating al fresco.

June 2014

We arrived having had a ghastly journey in torrential rain but all our stress disappeared once we stepped in to 'Ti Hanv'. Our faces well and truly lit up - what a gorgeous cottage. Having had a couple of dodgy experiences in past years we can't believe how you have catered for absolutely everything.

We have brought our fold-up bikes and so have been able to see a great deal of Pontreiux. What a delightful place it is. We went by car to Paimpol and walked all around by the boats and this morning caught the 7:30 train to their market. This afternoon we are flat out on the loungers recovering from our early morning.

The countryside around here is stunning and all the little villages are pretty and so well kept.
We look forward though to coming back here to this little hidden gem. We could quite happily live here except our respective animals would miss us!!

Thank you Kay, John and Judith for all your help and advice and above all 'Ti Hanv'

Jane & Theresa, Surrey

We have spent a glorious month at Ti Hanv. Pontrieux is a lovely town in a beautiful part of Brittany. Wherever we went the coast was breathtaking with many superb beaches. There is lots to do in and around Pontrieux with plenty of good walks, lots of markets and places of interest to visit. However for us the best thing was Ti Hanv itself with its gorgeous garden and summerhouse. We got into the habit of leaving quite early in the morning to walk one of the coast or riverbank walks or to visit other towns, especially on market days, or visiting places of interest within a couple of hours of Pontrieux. Returning armed with baguettes, cheeses, fruits, cooked meats etc and just sitting outside reading eating and dozing the afternoon away in the warm sunshine.

The cottage is so well thought out and equipped with every need met and every comfort catered for. We can highly recommend it and thank Kay and John and Judy for all their help and advice.

This has been a truly relaxing and enjoyable holiday and we return to the UK with many happy memories

We enjoyed our stay in Pontrieux. Your cottage is delightful - very comfortable with all the amenities needed for a relaxing holiday and a hugely useful information pack to steer newcomers to the right places. We followed several of your recommendations! The garden is glorious with the scents of rose and lavender in the evening; you've created a very attractive space.

September 2012

We have had a glorious 12 days here in Ti Hanv - weather has been lovely, and yes, as said by everyone else the garden here is a delight and so private too. Favourite beach for us was Plage Bonaparte (outside Plouha on road to Paimpol.) Brought back lots of happy memories of last time we were there with now grown up children, 22 years ago!

We found everyone here so friendly - Guy at Intermarche in Village very helpful at the fish counter - as was Jacqueline in Square Mondays and Fridays - excellent moules! Favourite market Paimpol on Tuesdays - also very good E Leclerc there. Hope everyone who reads this enjoys as much as we have.

Thank you to Kay and Judith, everything was perfect!

June 2012

We have had a lovely week, the gîte is so comfortable and everything so well organized and explained! The garden is beautiful and we've really enjoyed sitting in it and admiring the roses - I love the planting & greenery - I'm a flower arranger!

We found the roads to be empty and villages so pretty - Kerdalo Gardens really worth a visit. We swam at Bonaparte Plage - it was empty! Last meal at the Auberge Trieux at Lezardrieux was excellent - with finale of music at the Schooner.

Many, many thanks.

Thank you for a wonderful week. Ti Hanv is a real home from home and having the garden to sit in, in the sun, is a real bonus. We loved the village, so pretty, and driving around the country lanes and all the little villages was a real pleasure - no traffic, no litter & all so nicely kept.

Thanks again,

Had a lovely week here in Pontrieux. Gite very well equipped, very peaceful yet so close to all amenities. Lots of places nearby to visit, shopping particularly good at Lannion. Would highly recommend the boat trips at night to see the Lavoirs lit up.

Thanks for the use of your gîte. Very professionally run.

A wonderful week with superb weather. Ti Hanv is a lovely haven to return to after a day exploring the area. The garden is delightful. We enjoyed visiting Roche Jago, Lannion Market (Thursday) and lots of beaches including Plage Bonaparte, Pors Hir, Brehec etc etc.

Thoroughly enjoyed our week.

Three short days, but a 'real gem'! Cottage, town, countryside and coast all wonderful (and the weather!) Usually we never return to the same place for holidays, but this will be an exception and we hope to return in 2010. Everything so much nicer than the Loire Valley where we have just spent a week.

Maggi & Will, Devon

What can we say? - simply excellent cottage, beautifully appointed. Great garden - spent many a happy (& sunny) hour relaxing in it. Visited lots of the little villages and beach resorts. Can recommend the market at Lannion and traiteur Portic for excellent croustade de coquille St Jacques. Also at Paimpol, L'Ecluse restaurant at the far end of the port. Brilliant for seafood, very good service. Our favourite beach resort was St Quay-Portriuex - several beaches to chose from, seawater swimming pool, nice walks along headland etc. One of our best 'gîte' holidays - thanks to Kay and all the information supplied and effort that must have gone into that and making the cottage so stylish and with every comfort.

Sue & Michael, London

August 2009

A lovely spacious house, very well equipped and arrangements were immaculate. Thank you Kay and Judith. You made it very special. Our favourite beaches were Le Yaudet in the Léguer peninsula and Brhec with its little cafés (especially cidre at Le Petit Bar listening to Ray Charles & Jack Johnson). The pleasure of being here exceeded expectations: both the summer house for meals/wine and Pontrieux itself. We definitely want to return! A bientôt

July 2009

A return visit. We were here at this time last year and my comments still hold true. Walking still excellent, re-did some walks from last year and found new stretches of the coast to walk. Still recommend the red topo guide to the Grande Randonnée. Cake shops in Pontrieux still far too good. Still a perfect place to stay.

Sue & Chris, Norfolk

Many thanks for your hospitality both. What a lovely well equipped gîte. We loved every minute of the time we spent here. The pretty villages and beautiful coastline have thrilled us - Plage de Bonaparte, also coast line beyond Lannion - oh so beautiful. We are impressed at how clean and well kept all the villages are, it's a joy to see if all litter free. Many, many thanks.

Bob & Ruth, Cardiff

The best Gite we have ever stayed in, the village provides everything we needed, all in easy walking distance. We loved sitting out in the garden - reading, eating and drinking some wine. Beautiful area around - would like to be here far longer; and hope to return. We loved all the villages, so many flowers and so well looked after. Thank you for all the extra touches.

June 2009

Loved the cottage, loved Pontrieux, loved the area - local people very friendly. Both creperies very good and the Schooner Bar by the port for lunch. Days out to Port Blanc and Isle de Bréhat both excellent. Favourite moments - a glass of wine in the evening in the summer house.

April 2009

Thank you for a lovely stay. The cottage was perfect. We recommend dinner at the castle (Brelidy) and a trip to Carnach via the country roads over Mur Sur Bretagne and also the coast around Lannion - very beautiful.

Last minute holiday and enjoyed every minute of this gîte. Beautiful area and enjoyed the food, wine and villages we explored.

Very friendly people and with the weather made this trip a rest we both needed.

Would recommend to our friends and thank you to Kay for all the information and making a last minute booking very enjoyable.

We enjoyed our holiday here a great deal. The cottage is comfortable and well equipped, while the garden is an ideal place to relax in the sun. We were fortunate with the weather, which meant that many mornings were spent in the garden. We explored the various villages and sea sides, with Paimpol being our favourite.

Thanks to Kay and Judith for making the initial arrangements for us in such a professional way. It all worked out fine, thanks. We were impressed by the area and the accommodation and would certainly consider a return visit.

Noel and Dorothy, Edinburgh

We all had a wonderful time in Pontrieux. Although the weather was mixed we were able to get out and about a lot. Both Boulangeries in Pontrieux meant that we started the day with a delicious breakfast. We visited Plage Bonaparte twice and enjoyed sun, sea and a lot of sand!!

On a very wet day we had a fantastic trip to Oceonopolis - there was so much to see. The steam train from Paimpol was a lovely way to see the river.

The accommodation is outstanding and it was great to meet Kay and John who had brilliant recommendations for trips out. Judith organized things brilliantly. Our holiday was relaxing, enjoyable and we were very sad to go home.

Fantastic cottage, garden, cycling....EVERYTHING !!

Beware the kitten from over the road, a real time waster but loads of laughs.

Liz and Paul West Sussex

We are glad to escape the terrible down pouring weather in the UK during this period. We normally have two cottage holidays per year. This is one of the best cottages we have stayed in. Kay sets a good standard and equips her cottage very well.

We spent most mornings watching Olympic games. We travelled to nearby beaches and towns in the afternoons. Pontrieux is located at a good position as a base to see beautiful coastal area and old towns. We enjoyed the day trip to the Ile de Brehat and cycled around the island. We also enjoyed picking mussels near Plage Bonaparte rocky beach. We have had a lot of fun here. GPS helps us find everywhere without any errors. It also reminds us to keep on the right side of roads. We will definitely come back to Brittany many times in the future.

Roy, Mei and Shide

A week spent doing wonderful walks. Something different every day, beaches, cliffs, towns, wild bits and rivers. If interested would advise buying red topoguide to Cote de Granit Rose Tregor Morlaisen or the Petit Randonee version. Has all the maps and descriptions in it, based on the Grand Randonee round the coast and the one through Pontrieux. Hard to imagine a better place to stay. Enjoy and have fun!

July 2008

Superb accommodation and excellent location. We loved the night boat trip and explored a few beaches. Plage des Moulins at Etables sur Mer was voted favourite. Seafront cafe owners delightfully eccentric and welcoming - don't miss! Weather perfect and sunlounger much appreciated by teenage daughter -just the right way to recover from GCSE's.

A perfect end to our holiday in France. Everything we could have wished for. Beautiful cottage, garden and village. Great to be able to relax and forget about driving !!

Enjoyed the river walk with a picnic and fishing rod (No luck!) Took train to Paimpol and had a great day. Visited Chateau but most of all loved relaxing in the garden with a glass of 'vin' or strolling down to the quay for a bite to eat and a few beers. Thanks Judith for sorting out a sunbed for me!
